Merlot Reserve 2008

| Print |

Vintage Factors:
The first Reserve in Merlot in our history, the 2008 vintage takes advantage of the maturing of our new Silvana vineyard and draws also from established sites on Goodlow Mountain. Outstanding good fortune in the growing season repaid 20 years of intensive concentration on this varietal, now also the foundation of our Octagon, with an early-drinking wine of gratifying complexity, earthiness, length of finish, and shelf life. Available only at the winery.
Vinification:
Traditional fermentation on the skins, and maceration of up to 21 days in stainless steel tank. Aged up to 14 months in new and used barriques of superior French oak, air-dried at least 3 years before coopering.
Analysis:
13.0% Alcohol
0.0% Residual Sugar
0.56% Total Acidity
Tasting Notes:
Beautifully concentrated color. Complex aromas of ripe red fruit and subtle roasted elements. Exceptionally supple mouthfeel and very firm but luscious flavors, balanced without jamminess, sustained by natural acidity and well integrated tannins. The Top Pick of the Year by Palladio Restaurant's Sommelier, Alessandro Medici.
Optimum Drinking:
Our first Reserve in Merlot, we expect this vintage to mature very elegantly through 2019.
Food Pairings:
Osso buco con polenta
Gnocchi with ragù bolognese
Duck scaloppine in Marsala
